The Typing Cat vs. NinjaType

A broad course and layout choice

The Typing Cat offers structured courses, a speed test and typing games, with support for several keyboard layouts. Those options are relevant if you are learning a layout beyond QWERTY.

A comfortable QWERTY routine

NinjaType brings QWERTY finger practice, configurable tests and friend rooms into one daily stop. It has its own themes and game formats, with a gentle streak that loses one day for each fully missed day.

Use local history to revisit an attempt, and share a result card when you want to celebrate. Your records stay in this browser.

A few things to know.

Which keyboard layout do NinjaType lessons teach?

NinjaType’s finger-placement lessons teach QWERTY. The Typing Cat offers several layout options. NinjaType does not currently provide a separate Dvorak, Colemak or Workman lesson curriculum.

Can I practise without following a course?

Yes. Start a solo test, choose a duration or word count, and select your dictionary. You can move to a finger lesson whenever you want focused technique practice.

Does NinjaType have The Typing Cat’s games?

No. NinjaType has its own Ghost Race and multiplayer typing rooms. It does not reproduce The Typing Cat’s game collection or course library.

How forgiving is the daily streak?

Practising on a day adds one streak day. Each fully missed day subtracts one until the streak reaches zero. Your current and best streak are kept in local history, so a single missed day does not erase a long streak.
