NinjaType is a free TypeRacer alternative for room-based typing races. Choose a nickname, create a room and invite friends, or enter an available public room. You can choose a fixed word race or a timed typing game, compare results and rematch without an account.

What is TypeRacer?
TypeRacer describes itself as a multiplayer typing competition where players race live opponents while typing quotes from books, films, songs and other sources. Its public page was checked on October 26, 2026.
The name is also searched as “type racer.” If you want that specific service, follow its official link above. If you are comparing typing games, consider the text, race format and invitation flow that fit your session rather than assuming every game works identically.
When is NinjaType a useful alternative?
Choose NinjaType when your priority is a shared room with flexible Words or Time settings. Its multiplayer flow uses nicknames and a security check instead of account registration.
| What you want | NinjaType option |
|---|---|
| Race friends on the same passage | Create a room and share the invitation link |
| Play with available strangers | Join a listed public room |
| Race toward a finish line | Words mode with 15, 30 or 50 words |
| Give everyone the same typing window | Time mode with 15, 30, 60 or 120 seconds |
| Change vocabulary | Choose from the available English word lists or Brainrot |
| Practise alone first | Take a typing test or play Ghost Race |
This describes NinjaType’s features rather than ranking it above another service. Features on external sites can change, and we have not run a comparative speed or latency benchmark.
How do you start a typing race with friends?
- Open Multiplayer Typing Race and choose a nickname.
- Create a room, selecting the mode and dictionary.
- Complete the security check and share the invitation link.
- Have at least two players ready up for the shared countdown.
- Type the passage and correct each word before advancing.
Rooms are public and have a displayed player limit, with ten as the default. Results remain for up to two minutes; the room’s maximum lifetime is twenty minutes, including rematches. The room setup guide explains joining, reconnecting and rematching.
Should you choose Words or Time mode?
In Words mode, the first accepted finish or the two-minute limit ends the round. That suits a short finish-line challenge, but a much faster player can finish before beginners have typed much of the passage.
Time mode gives everyone the selected typing window. The long shared passage is not a target everyone is expected to finish; the timer ends the race, and final correct-character scores determine the winner.
Keep the settings unchanged when comparing two rounds. Switching dictionary or duration changes the task and can explain a score difference without any change in your keyboard skill.
Can a typing game help you improve?
A race gives you a reason to maintain pace and finish under pressure. Use accuracy as a practice goal too. If repeated corrections slow you down, return to a finger lesson or accuracy drill before the next race.
Ghost Race offers a solo typing game against your saved best average pace. It is useful when no live opponents are available and you want a personal challenge before joining a room.
